How do I sell my old or rare coins?

You can bring your coins to Numicraft at 77 High Street, Hemel Hempstead Old Town. We will examine their authenticity, condition, rarity, collectability and precious-metal content before discussing their value with you. Please contact us first if you have a particularly large collection.

Do you buy rare coins?

Yes. We are interested in rare British coins, world coins, ancient coins, hammered coins, milled coins, sovereigns, proof coins and other numismatic coins. A coin’s value depends on more than rarity, so condition, authenticity and current collector demand will also be considered.

Do you buy rare pennies and 50p coins?

Yes, where they have genuine collector value. Some rare pennies, 50p coins and other modern coins can be collectible, but many coins described as rare online are relatively common. We can examine your coins and give you an honest opinion.

Do you buy ancient and Roman coins?

Should I clean my old coins?

Usually not. Cleaning can scratch a coin, alter its surface and significantly reduce its collector value. Before using any coin cleaning supplies, seek advice about the particular coin and the safest approach.

How should I store my coin collection?

Coins should be stored in suitable holders, capsules, trays, albums or coin storage boxes. Avoid unsuitable plastics, excessive moisture, strong chemicals and unnecessary handling. Lindner Collectible Accessories offer a range of purpose-designed storage options.

How should I handle collectible coins?

Handle coins as little as possible and hold them by their edges rather than touching the faces. Clean, suitable coin gloves or coin tongs may be helpful for particularly delicate items.

What are your opening hours?

We are normally open Monday to Friday from 9.30am until 5.00pm and Saturday from 9.30am until 3.00pm. On Sundays, we open by appointment or during the Hemel Hempstead Old Town Market on the first Sunday of the month. Please check our latest opening information before making a special journey.

Do I need an appointment?

You can normally visit during our shop opening hours without an appointment. However, please contact us beforehand if you are bringing a large collection or would like to ensure that the appropriate expert is available.

Is there parking near the shop?

There are public parking options within walking distance of Hemel Hempstead Old Town. Please check local signs and parking restrictions when you visit.

Do you offer home visits?

Yes. Home visits may be available for large, valuable or difficult-to-transport collections in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and further afield, depending on the size and nature of the collection. Please contact us to discuss your circumstances.

Can you identify an unknown coin?

We may be able to help identify an unknown coin, token, medal or banknote. Please bring the item into the shop so that we can examine it properly. Identification does not necessarily mean that the item has a high financial value.
