The 1896 Victoria LX Crown is one of the earliest Veiled Head silver crowns, struck at the Royal Mint in sterling silver (.925) and carrying the mature Veiled Head (Old Head) portrait by Sir Thomas Brock. Issued during the closing years of Queen Victoria’s reign, this crown marks the 60th regnal year of her rule.
The reverse features Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic St George and the Dragon, a design that has defined British crown coinage since 1817. The edge inscription “LX” denotes the regnal year and distinguishes this variety from the LXI crowns of 1897–1898 and the LXIV crown of 1900.
