1914 First World War Centenary Coin & Medal Collection
Issued to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, this impressive Coin & Medal Collection combines five original 1914 British silver coins with replica examples of the three campaign medals awarded to many British servicemen during the Great War. Presented in an attractive display case with certificate of authenticity, the collection offers a tangible connection to one of the most significant periods in modern history.

Unlike many modern commemorative issues, this collection contains genuine circulating silver coins struck in 1914, the year Britain entered the First World War. These original coins circulated at the very beginning of the conflict and provide a direct link to the generation whose lives were shaped by the events of 1914–1918.
Complementing the coinage are replica examples of the famous 1914 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Collectively known by veterans as “Pip, Squeak and Wilfred”, these medals became symbolic of service during the Great War and remain amongst the most recognisable military awards in British history.
Limited to 1,914 editions, this collection serves as both a numismatic display and a poignant tribute to those who served during the First World War.
Historical Background
The First World War began in August 1914 and would continue until the Armistice of 11 November 1918. Millions of men and women from Britain and across the Empire contributed to the war effort, both on the front line and at home.
The silver coins included within this collection were all struck in 1914 during the first year of the conflict and represent the currency that would have circulated throughout Britain as the nation mobilised for war. Their survival over more than a century makes them fascinating historical artefacts as well as collectable coins.
The accompanying replica medals represent the trio of campaign decorations awarded to eligible First World War servicemen. The 1914 Star recognised early wartime service, whilst the British War Medal and Victory Medal were awarded to those who served in theatres of war during the conflict.
Together, the coins and medals create a fitting memorial to the centenary of the Great War and the sacrifices of those involved.
