Historical Note

Issued during the final phase of the Boer War, these Pietersburg notes were printed under emergency conditions as the ZAR government retreated north. The £1 denomination was the most widely used, but surviving examples are scarce today, especially in nice condition. They represent a poignant reminder of the Republic’s struggle before incorporation into the Union of South Africa.
