This beautifully engraved silver medallion commemorates the Treaty of Utrecht, signed in 1713, which brought an end to the War of the Spanish Succession and marked a major diplomatic triumph for Queen Anne’s government. The medal was designed and engraved by John Croker, Chief Engraver at the Royal Mint, and is one of the most iconic British commemorative medals of the early 18th century.
Obverse
Features a laureate and draped bust of Queen Anne, facing left, with her hair bound in pearls and falling in lovelocks over her shoulder.

Reverse
Depicts Britannia standing left, holding a spear and shield in her left hand and extending a laurel branch in her right — a classical symbol of peace. In the background, ships at sea and farmers ploughing fields represent the return to prosperity.
