This impressive commemorative medallion celebrates the series of British victories in 1759, known as the “Annus Mirabilis” (Year of Miracles), during the Seven Years’ War. Designed by John Kirk, it honours the triumphs of British arms under King George II.

Obverse

Bust of George II, laureate and draped, facing left.

Legend: “GEORGIUS II D.G. MAG. BRIT. FR. ET HIB. REX F.D.”
Translation: “George II, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith”
Reverse

A winged Victory inscribes the names of British successes on a shield, with captured standards and trophies around.

Victories commemorated include Quebec, Minden, Lagos, Quiberon Bay, and others from 1759.
