This extremely rare silver medallion commemorates the imperial tour of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) in 1875, when he visited India, Ceylon, and Egypt. Struck to mark the occasion, it is a scarce piece of Victorian royal memorabilia and is not listed in Eimer, making it highly desirable for collectors.

The Royal Coat of Arms surrounded by camels, symbolising the Eastern leg of the journey.

Historical Note

The 1875–76 tour was the first major overseas journey by a British heir apparent, designed to reinforce imperial prestige and strengthen ties with colonial rulers. The Prince travelled extensively through India and Ceylon, before returning via Egypt, where he visited Cairo and the Suez Canal.

Medals such as this were struck in very limited numbers, often by local engravers, to commemorate the event. The unusual reverse design — the coat of arms flanked by camels — reflects the exotic imagery associated with the Eastern empire. Its rarity today (RRR) makes it a prized piece of Victorian royal and imperial history.
